   This was the last Sun machine we ever purchased in our department. We haven't had the heart to surplus it, so it sits up here as a showpiece forever.

     We can also find the System Configuration Card. This is basically a smart card containing the machine's MAC address and other data unique to the system.

     It meant if you had to replace the server, you could just move this card and the storage to the new machine and it would be basically the same server.

     Pretty damn clever.

     I wish Oracle hadn't purchased and then destroyed Sun.

     Inside the front door we find eight SCA hard drive bays, of which only two are occupied.

     SCA was basically hot swap SCSI, and the predecessor to SAS.

     Steve's Place repeated this.
