One time one of my atheist friends asked me if it would be wrong for him to pray to God even though he doesn't believe and isn't godly. He said something about it feeling kinda fake and one sided. I said of course it was ok and I genuinely couldn't see why it wouldn't be ok. Then a couple minutes later I kinda think I realized why he said that. I think he understood prayer the same way many lukewarm Christian in the US think of prayer, which is asking something of God like money or a good grade on a test or something. It's sad that that is what prayer has become in modern America and that's why I don't really buy the whole 60% of America is Christian statistic. A lot of Christians I've met irl don't go to chruch and never actually touched the Bible.
