@lain what are the good earphones? all I'm seeing is apple's sex-toy-shaped crap that ruined earphones for a generation because everyone's making the stupid tiny little fuckers with touch controls that depend on their stupid little box that just suck to use
@john_darksoul@Reiddragon i recently got some of those modern style earphones (the ones that look like gemstones with a telephone cord) and i was blown away by the performance for the price
@Reiddragon@lain >ruined earphones for a generation What the fuck are you talking about? Do you mean wireless earbuds? Those kind of always suck. As far as regular earphones and headphones things are as good now as they’ve ever been. The industry is literally booming. Tons of good options for different sound profiles at every price point.
@lain mate, it's not about sound. My dailies for a long while were a cheap pair of JBL 510s (quite far from audiophile-grade). Right now I'm using a pair of completely stand-alone in-ears just like the airpods and they fucking suck. Not the sound, they're perfectly fine there, but the formfactor just SUCKS. The fact these things are so tiny and easy to lose, dependent on their stupid little box that you have to carry with you all the time and if you lose it then you're screwed, and the GODS FORSAKEN TOUCH CONTROLS (I can't describe how fucking much those suck and how often I engage them when I'm just trying to quickly get an earphone in and out because it's faster than getting my phone out and pausing the music or lowering the volume, meanwhile I NEVER use those intentionally cause I just can't be bothered to remember how many taps on what earphone for what functions)
@john_darksoul@lain I'm talking about the stupid fucking formfactor of completely wireless earbuds that depend on their special little case that is completely mandatory for their basic functionality.
Earphones should just be fucking wired and with no touch controls anywhere, at most 1 to 3 buttons on the chord.
and again, I'm not talking audio quality, I'm personally using a pair of fully wireless earphones and I really have nothing to complain about when it comes to the sound, it's the experience around the sound, how I have to baby them when I'm getting them in and out to not accidentally touch a specific area with some skin or else I engage its stupid functions, how if I lose the stupid little box then the tiny fuckers become useless, how I can't just grab an earphone and quickly throw it in my pocket for a minute if I need to hear what's around me in a rush because I might engage the gods forsaken touch actions
@john_darksoul@lain like, rally, both of you, maybe stop for a single moment and ask me what my criticism actually is instead of instantly assuming I'm talking about audio quality and comparing a 10mm driver with some fancy electrostatic studio earphones.
