   While this is fun, the temperature engineering subcommittee of the HOA has asked me to explain that a huuuuge amount of heat energy is visibly just bouncing off and people should not be trusted with a 3300 degree heat source.

     @xabean @adamshostack i really think the olfactory offensiveness of durian is very much overstated by people not used to strong smells and flavors.

     @skinnylatte @adamshostack I've never had actual durian, only durian candy and it actually tasted pretty good to me. Totallly want to try the real fruit sometime.

     @xabean @adamshostack it's bit like blue cheese. people who grew up with it think it's amazing and wonderful and it might be an acquired taste for those who didn't.

     like blue cheese, there are storage / terroir aspects to it: having blue cheese that hasn't been kept well in a super tropical place probably makes it melt and go bad. same with how durian really doesn't travel well.

     episode 1 of this great food podcast interviews a durian blogger from the US (hehe)

     @douglasvb @xabean @adamshostack some shops with large Asian populations (San Jose) will have frozen musang king. Which, in the grand scheme of frozen durian, is as good as you can get.

     @skinnylatte @xabean @adamshostack I’d say that cheeses are a bit of an acquired taste. I grew up with several types of cheeses from simple eidam to blue cheese to stinky tvargle and these day I avoid them all except for cheddar when I crave Mac and cheese
