Their blogpost reads like typical "open source" rhetoric to me. From their so-called "pragmatic" viewpoint their stance will seem well thought-out and practical.

    But it is misleading, they are deliberately avoiding the core issue raised by people who really don't want to see LLM generated code in their software;

This issue of copyright and software freedom.

So instead of focussing too much on the LLM bullshit I will instead criticize KeePassCX for using GitHub in the first place.

Requiring people to create a Microsoft account and run proprietary JavaScript to be able to interact with your repository was the original sin that led you down this path.

Just stop using GitHub and you'll automatically avoid Copilot as well.

But I think they're tired of arguing (there was a lot of inane comments tho so I can't blame them).
I have the same opinion about you on this subject, I don't mind the usage of tools as long as it doesn't injection proprietary software. And from my view (and the FSFs) using proprietary LLMs are to be excluded because of that.

@mangeurdenuage@shitposter.world @keepassxc@fosstodon.org I have the feeling that I won't be able to change their mind.

But just in case if any KeePassXC developer reads this:

Please stop requiring that your teammembers and contributors run proprietary tools!

If you want to make this right, I highly recommend moving your repository to a better and freedom respecting service like Codeberg or hosting your own forge instead. People here will love you if you do this.

@SuperDicq @mangeurdenuage Some might love us, most probably won't care. Some will hate us for it. The overall level of community contribution and interaction would for sure be a lot lower. GitHub is a productivity tool for us, but it's also where most developers are, which is extremely valuable. We're not jumping ship just like that.

@keepassxc@fosstodon.org @mangeurdenuage@shitposter.world Again you're presenting these overly "pragmatic" arguments without any real concern for the bigger picture.

But the only way to fix the perceived problem (not enough developers on another site) is to have notable projects (such as yourself) move there. If you move, people will move with you, fixing part of the problem.

Only you can help us fix this awful feedback loop of monopolistic centralization that Microsoft is trying to make.

@Ergo@annihilation.social @mangeurdenuage@shitposter.world @keepassxc@fosstodon.org I know some people who don't even actively use Github but only have a Github account that simply runs a Github Actions script that adds green dots to their profile every day just for this fucking reason alone.

Wouldn't one gain from that since part of your past argument was that human contribution can be of bad quality ?

Maybe requesting Microsoft to make such change would be good.

@mangeurdenuage@shitposter.world @keepassxc@fosstodon.org @Ergo@annihilation.social No, you just simply shouldn't have a Github account, like me.

If companies refuse to hire you because you don't use Github that is a very good filter for shitty companies you don't want to work at in the first place.

@Ergo@annihilation.social @mangeurdenuage@shitposter.world @keepassxc@fosstodon.org The reason I block ads in the first place is to reduce bandwidth usage mostly. And tracking is easy to block too.

This is honestly a bad idea.

The concept of adnauseam works on the concept of feeding falsified data to the "advertisers".
-It only works if their main source of revenue is effectively targeted advertisement.
      Which isn't the case anymore.
Add corporations are all owned by either oracle, google or microsoft.
Their main source of revenue is the value of their stocks and not what their services for a cost or free of cost.

-You have to trust google chrome to actually apply the addon because so far google does not give a shit about it's what the userbase wants

-Nothing tell you that the software/JS loading in the browser isn't bypassing any of your ruleset. It's very well known that browser side software executing is totally fine.

-And finally, the best way to kill a beast that feeds itself on data, is the lack of data.
Databrocker have repeatedly told over the years they do not care what kind of data it is. They'll always find a use for it.
So the best thing to do is to not give data at all or minimize it as possible.
That's why firewalls like uMatrix or uBo are a necessity. Which aren't available on google chrome for a very strange reason.
