So there’s this narrative that AI drones are the future of warfare but we observe no/few successful terror attacks or assasinations using drones and also few good business applications relative to what you expect

    The reason is wind.

It’s really hard to operate them reliably and with precision. The wind can just knock them around or carry them off target.

I think they only work in the Ukraine war because you just send one into the enemy base and it goes boom. It’s a slightly smarter mortar

@Cosmic not really. you need 30+ mph wind at least before there's much effect on most small/medium sized quads, larger ones can deal with higher wind than that

gps camera drones like the dji mavic series handle wind very well and are so stable they can act as a flying tripod

Wind? For small drones the limitation is the battery itself. I agree I don't think we'd see quad-copter drones outside of what they're current used for. Suicide drones are just a huge waste of lithium and circuit boards.

But for decades we've seen the larger predator drones; miniature jet fighters. Any type of automation will basically just be to keep them on course and release a pre-determined payload if they're jammed .. or maybe to launch 20 at once with one operator (but they would still need pre-determined targets).

You see this in old Sci-Fi. In Gundam W, they were called "Robot Dolls"
