Btw, Kainoa, the Firefish/Calckey developer who kinda fell off the face of the Earth went to BlueSky. Abandoned the Fediverse altogether.

BlueSky is pretty fucking terrible, though. Considering just deleting my account or otherwise deleting the app or whatever. The entire platform is just openly hostile and antagonistic. It’s like being on Mastodon.

@phnt No, there is really functional or good Nostr client/app. Universally all terrible. Don’t really know why. BlueSky’s client/app is basically just Twitter…which makes sense considering it was developed originally by Twitter prior to X. Fediverse has a lot of clients to choose from, many of which are solid (including PWAs like Misskey). Nostr has nothing good going for it, even though the protocol is arguably the best. It’s really very unfortunate. Meanwhile, Activity Pub basically has everything going for it despite it being the shittiest of protocols, in my opinion. Really looking forward to/hoping for something like widespread FEP-ae97 implementation. @dcc

@phnt The protocol is interesting and the primary app has a really good UI/UX but the entire network and community is absolutely cancer. @dcc

It doesn’t help that the whole network is also populated almost exclusively by Western liberals, who demonstrate time and time again that they’re the most insufferable, most dangerous psychopaths inhabiting this planet’s crust.

BlueSky is also internally fracturing in the same way that the Fediverse is fractured: via large, ever-growing block-lists. At least with BlueSky it’s on an individual, user-by-user basis vs. domain-by-domain, so you don’t end up with 1 server admin unilaterally blocking access to a remote user or server for their X number of hosted users. But, it’s still becoming a problem. And, BlueSky users seem a lot more block-happy than even Mastodon admins. I guess, as it turns out, having everyone live under one “big tent” or whatever doesn’t work out: most people don’t like one another and forcing everyone all together is never going to result in anything other than dysfunction.

      As I expressed therein:

The end-result of the Bsky experience for any srs or long-time user is getting blocked by a sizable percentage of the user-base + oneself blocking a sizable percentage of the user-base—not dissimilar from the Fediverse experience w/ nw fragmentation behind colossal server block-lists.

To add to this. This was very likely done deliberately just to skirt around the EU laws of interopability on social media. Technically interopable with other protocols, in reality not so much.

@adiz @dcc I think the developers using these protocols more or less describe the whole community using those protocols.

Nostr are bitcoin maxies that went there not because of the protocol, because of the hype wave. Structurally it is a good protocol, extensions are clearly and rigidly defined. And since bitcoin maxies are kinda annoying and have nothing interesting to talk about, the network looks like that. Their passion for LLM everything also resembles their clients, barely working with a must-have "blink".

ATProto is just a clone of Twitter with federation designed to be so complicated that most don't bother. And as such, it brought the worst of Twitter with it. The new CEO can't save it, because the community is unsaveable.

And AP is mostly chill, just like the main developers on it, minus the heavily political *key forks. I may disagree with lots of things that Eugene did with Mastodon, but I would still be able to have a beer or two with him. Suyjillo just wanted a forum that turned into a fedi server. And Pleroma devs are probably one of the most easy-going calm people I've ever talked to on the series of pipes and I'm no exaggerating that.

AP as a protocol was sabotaged from the start by Twitter-brained (now Bluesky) people, but it managed to overcome that, because other people came in. Nostr only has bitcoin maxies that only care about muh censorship, nobody else came yet. I'm not counting glussy since where the money is, that's it.
