   The food-affordability crisis really has 3 things happening at once:
   1-general economic crisis due to tariffs, terrorizing immigrants (and citizens!)by snatching people off the streets,huge cuts in government programs, etc: this is causing a rise in costs across the board, including food costs.

     ...which I am doing too & using it as a way to community build and educate.

     BTW, the government has contingency funds it can use to fund food aid during a shutdown... the Republicans are refusing to use it because all of this starving of people is on purpose.

     3 - the government shutdown means 40M people who receive SNAP are not going to get their food money starting Nov 1st. This is about $6B per month in food that's just stopping. There's virtually no way for private donations to even begin to compensate, but you can see people scrambling to try...

     2 - a bill Republicans pushed through this summer cut funding for food pantries and SNAP (by about 20%). Even before the bill, the Trump administration was just unilaterally cutting food aid everywhere: school lunches, US AID, etc. This was happening before the government shutdown.
