I don't believe in the dead internet theory but I definitely think facebook and twitter are necrotic and need to be amputated.

@mhoye I mean Dead Internet Theory proper is a conspiracy theory with harmful radicalization motives, but the concept that particular platforms are dead and overrun with both intentional and emergent inauthentic activity based on incentive structures, whether the bots are running on silicon or wetware, is spot-on.

@mhoye And if you're uninformed enough to think Facebook Birdchan and Reddit are the internet... well that sounds a lot like "dead internet"...
The gap in understanding is that platforms die via the people who want to be authentic and get something of value out of it, rather than consuming slop, moving on as soon as enshittification starts.
