@GossiTheDog How do we completely disable it is I think what everyone wants to know.
I opened a case with the ICO about this, they've given me a date of May 2026 for when they can start first triage on it - if you're wondering why orgs are rushing out GenAI things currently.
@GossiTheDog Wow! Indeed no NPU needed for that?
As of now my understanding was, that this was a requirement.
#copilot #recall #Microsoft
@GossiTheDog I'm hoping this is what the new version of "O&O Shut Up" is for https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10
@GossiTheDog In the Netherlands this quite clearly constitutes a crime for which Microsoft could go to jail for 6 months: https://www.om.nl/onderwerpen/cybercrime/hack_right/wetsartikel-computervredebreuk
Not sure how the UK law would work?
Likely for frame generation and upscaling (DLSS)
And what's the purpose of this? So their next generation of AI can advertise that it will play your games for you?
Let AI do your gaming, watch your favorite tv show and summarize it for you, and talk to your friends so you don't have to. Let AI take over all those burdensome activities of living and enjoying life.
@GossiTheDog Am I correct in understanding that the lack of NPU requirement and lack of song-and-dance about 'local' means "goes right back to HQ"?
@GossiTheDog Damn. I suspect it's probably just two dueling projects working at cross purposes; but that makes the whole 'recall' fiasco feel like it was just some preparatory frog-boiling before the main event.
@GossiTheDog Hello, question— I shared your blog post on "bluesky" and a poster there asked what subversion of Windows 11 you saw this on— they do not see it on 24H2, is there a version after that?

@GossiTheDog this is so frustrating. not only is it garbage but it's stochastic garbage. my Windows VM is up to date with the absolute latest stuff. Now, to be fair, I installed the "copilot can fuck off into the sun" GPO a while ago and maybe that prevents this sort of thing, but still, the 'game bar' I get with windows-G *does* come up, but just looks nothing at all like what everyone is complaining about
@GossiTheDog If you have Gamebar deactivated - as i have - then it won't be installed at all. Who uses Gamebar anyway? For real?
Microsoft have managed to deny something I never said. As mentioned in my blog, the screenshot feature and the train AI model features are different - and enabled by default.
