Anyone from Jitsi on the fediverse?
Would love to have a chat with you about how we’re using Jitsi for Gaza Verified (https://gaza-verified.org).

@millerebonds Thanks, I’d be happy to give it a shot if you’re happy with us using it but we did try a self-hosted one from a friend earlier and it just didn’t work well enough for us to hold our video calls with Gaza.
Would it be possible to put me in touch with the person/people who host this instance? :)
@aral Hello
Jitsi must have secure hosting
meet.jit.si it's cloudflare
talk.fdn.fr it's our friends for free software and ethics
@millerebonds Thanks, shot them an email to see if they’d be cool with us embedding from their instance for our use case :)
@aral I don't know them personally
https://www.fdn.fr/
They are like riseup standing for free internet
@s Heya 👋
Trying to :) (The five-minute limit on the live server for embeds is making it hard to carry out our 15-minute meetings but I talked to a sales person from 8x8 this morning and they’re going to ask around internally to see if they can sponsor us or something. Or we might end up trying to embed from someone else’s instance and see how the video/audio quality holds – we did try one self-hosted instance but it didn’t work well enough to hold the calls).
💕
@s Sadly, I did look into that.
We have 3 people in a call (that’s three Monthly Active Users) per call. We have four calls a weekday, so that makes 15. Using four weeks for a month, that’s 60 MAU so that puts us into the JaaS Basic tier for $99/month.
(It’s exists for enterprises, so I get it. It’s not for us.) :)
* A Monthly Active User (MAU) is defined as a unique user who attended at least one meeting, with at least one other user, in the same month. A user is defined as a unique endpoint
@s Yeah, looks like lots of folks have instances so we can try. Self-hosting it in a way where you can hold calls without video/audio problems seems to be a non-trivial matter though.
