Yeeeeeeah!
Reading this 2 years later makes me want to go back and listen to those bands again, again.
Great thread, me!
Garmarna play Swedish melancholic heavy electric folk music, and this album is a real soundscape, very crisp and rhythmic with violins, drums and electric guitars. Is there a key harp (the Swedish bowed hurdy gurdy-like) on this album? I will have to listen more carefully to say.
Emma Härdelin has that wonderfully precise and wide-range "kulning"-inspired vocal performance from raspy alto up to falsetto, strong diaphragm, and a few ethereal half-tones here and there, just like the other modern-folk greats like Ulrika Bodén and Sofia Sandén of (sadly disbanded) Ranarim.
Now I want to go back and relisten my favorites with Garmarna, Hedningarna and Hoven Droven.
Ooh, Garmarna released a new (to me) album three years ago!
Garmarna: "Förbundet" (full album, 42 min)
