Told my son when he was young that the car stereo automatically regulates and turns down the sound level in the car to protect the speakers. Really it's me turning the sound down on the button on the steering wheel. He's 14 and still not realised it me.

@fesshole well, in fact some cars are programmed to increase the stereo volume if it detects an increase in ambient noise, or even increased speed. I’m not sure if this is still a thing in newer cars, but that was a thing in the past. Just saying

@fesshole I tried but never could play such a trick on my kid. Every time I make something up to shortcut a long boring explanation, I crack in a couple of days and tell her the truth, as I feel like I'm betraying her pure unconditional trust
