   @chris The problem doesn't seem to be the guns (after all, those are harmless pieces of metal without someone to wield it) - there are many countries with a similar per capita amount of firearms and ammo stockpiled that don't have problems with school shootings.
   
   The total recorded history of deaths from school shootings seems to be ~304; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_school_shootings_in_the_United_States_by_death_toll?useskin=monobook - while that is 304 too many - really there are many other things much more lethal to children that absolutely nothing is being done about.
