   You know what’s evil about this whole thing? Empathy is inextricable tied to social function. They are characterizing empathy as emotional contagion, an extreme form of affective empathy.

   What they don’t understand by vilifying empathy is that in 1993 it took on the meaning of sympathy. A simple search on at the contrast between the two words pops out that historical detail.
