When I was in college, I worked a a fixed for journalists and documentary film makers who wanted to get anything done anywhere in Asia.

I would contact people, set up meetings, get people paid.

That was such a great life skill (and oh so many stories to tell)!

All this just means, I know how to get anyone paid anywhere in the world and

I never really stopped having this fixer mindset.

When I go anywhere I’m always thinking who is a really interesting person to talk to about something I dont know anything about?

I don’t publish that type of work anymore, but there is no reason to stop doing it. I learn so much (a friend is connecting me with some paleontologists.. I just want to hang out with some, no real reason to)

@skinnylatte That explains a lot. It's why I see a kindred soul in you.

The fixer mindset never leaves you.

Some people are like this, but in a very transactional way. For the most part, I’ve found that just being around people who really care about something, is a contagious.

I’m not saying ‘take up people’s time with no goal either’. I often end up in a connector role because I sit across so many different fields, and I really enjoy seeing how to make beautiful things happen when people who care a lot about something get together.

An example would be, if and when I meet these paleontologists, I might find a common interest in birds. And I might go ‘hey you should talk to this bird guy in Borneo!’ And they might end up going on a great adventure together.

I like the randomness of people and places

@mtechman strangely this skill does not work in a corporate environment. I would rather dig my eyeballs out than do it in a corporate way. Lol sorry for the imagery

I am actually an introverted autistic person so I don’t know how I discovered I have these skills and interests.

I think exposure to many different things and people helped (my parents took me on cheap backpacking adventures across Asia. That was all they could afford when they were poor. My classmates were going to Europe. They were feeding me noodles in a jungle somewhere)

I don’t feel like a naturally gregarious person, but I have found some joy in meeting new people in many different places.
