@joeinwynnewood it's anti-democratic, and it weakens our already fractured election infrastructure. One great opportunity for the other side to undermine elections would be to refuse to recognise the new boundaries and instead run, and acclaim as winners, candidates in the old boundaries.
@joeinwynnewood sorry, maybe you didn't understand. We are all well aware that the Republican party is willing to tear apart the fabric of democracy. It has done many antidemocratic things in the past, and the Texas gerrymandering is just the latest example. Using those same techniques on the Democratic side will double the rate at which our democratic infrastructure is dismantled.
Let me get this straight, legally gerrymandering in Democratic states is anti-democratic and weakens election infrastructure, but refusing to accept districts established by a legislature and signed into law isn't and won't?
@joeinwynnewood I guess that's the gamble, right? Whether the damage done by using dirty tactics is offset by the good done by possibly winning the mid-terms. I can't say that I'm as optimistic as you are about it.
Democrats taking steps to stop what is now a fascist party from cementing minority rule across every part of government is very much not increasing the rate of dismantling democratic infrastructure.
It's preserving the possibility of rebuilding the infrastructure MAGA Republicans have destroyed and are destroying.
There is no possibility of building or rebuilding any democratic infrastructure without first taking power back.
@mastodonmigration@joeinwynnewood it's a fight without a plan. It tarnishes the reputation of the Democratic Party and puts us in the same category as Republicans. If we're going to follow it, we should have a good plan for getting out of that hole.
This actually makes no sense. They are tearing apart democracy, and your prescription is to let them because using their same tactics against them would hasten the destruction? In fact, nothing will destroy democracy faster than not fighting back. They have brought a knife to a fist fight. It's not like on TV where you can jujitsu your way to victory, better reach for your knife.
