The #Trump proposal calls for the #university to make a $1 billion payment to the #US government & to contribute $172 million to a claims fund that would compensate *victims* [privileged white men] of #CivilRights violations.

If #UCLA accedes to the demand, it would be the largest payout—by far—of any university that has so far reached a deal with Trump. #Columbia agreed to pay $221M in connection with its settlement, & Brown pledged to spend $50M with state work force programs.

@Nonilex let’s just face the facts. The Trump administration is trying to destroy California.

The University of California’s president, James B. Milliken, said in a statement on Friday that the university had “just received a document from the Department of Justice & is reviewing it.”

He added, “As a public university, we are stewards of taxpayer resources, & a payment of this scale would completely devastate our country’s greatest public university system as well as inflict great harm on our students & all Californians.”

"A payment of this scale would completely devastate our country's greatest public university system...."

The president of the University of California, of which UCLA and Berkeley are a part, considers that a bad thing. It is. Most definitely.

For Trump, though, it's a goal, one of the things he most wants to do. That needs to be made much more obvious.

@Nonilex Trump's "presidency" is a protection racket, and he's not even trying to hide the fact anymore.

So, Trump wants California taxpayers to pay his federal government one billion dollars. California taxpayers should agree to do so only if Trump's federal government returns $82 Billion dollars of the $83 Billion dollars in excess taxes Californians pay to the feds but does not receive back. That's a fair deal.
