     @cstanhope This is the part that really irks me more than anything else

     I've spent 30 years building up my experience and skills, and now I'm being told that's worthless and I should find a new career

     but when it all comes crashing down, I'll be in demand again

     I mean, I'm all for humility. I too am a mediocre engineer, but I guess you gave up on building skills in engineering.

     Also, here's the real push:
