being told that you need tons of armed folks dedicated to controlling -certain- folks from doing certain things to certain people is one thing.

Okay, but factor in that these armed folks are de facto taking orders from the rich. AND that the rich (over time) rig it so they can take vast amounts of whatever they want from others (aka steal/harm) without consequences, often using these armed folks.
