@lain@lain.com has the typographic shortcomings that go hand-in-hand with the limitations of early desktop publishing (fonts were often digitizations of photo setting typefaces, which have many of the same limitations). the use of a single weight of medium-to-high contrast typefaces that only have one typically mid-size-optimized optical size at multiple line heights always bothers me a little. there's a whole generation of designers who have an unhealthy obsession with 'type pairings' as a backlash against the careless typography of their immediate forbearers and a refusal to engage with the renaissance of type with properly designed optical sizes.
