   when i close my laptop xfce complains that the screen lock app is not installed and somehow that prevents it from entering sleep mode

     @Inginsub I had that problem for a while and had to use the switch user button to return to the display manager and sleep from there. Eventually fixed it by reinstalling the xfce screenlock package. The whole "Unix philosophy" BS for xfce is pretty much just a larp really since there are hidden dependencies between the components. so you really just would be better off if it was one big package instead because you end up having to install them all for it to work correctly anyways.
