FediTips has moved!
The latest Mastodon update lets you follow hashtags. When you follow, posts with that tag appear in your timeline automatically.
For example, follow hashtag #Florespondence to make posts about flowers appear in your timeline.
This feature can be REALLY useful for discovering interesting accounts.
To follow a hashtag:
1. Log in through your server's website
2. Search for hashtag
3. Click it to see its results
4. Click on ?+ icon in top right (click again to unfollow)
It's not on the apps yet.

@feditips sadly, mobile apps seem to not support this feature yet. Posts from followed hashtags are shown, but there exists no button to follow/unfollow tags.

Just to clear up some confusion about how hashtag following works on Mastodon apps:
If you follow a hashtag on Mastodon, posts from those followed tags will be visible on your home timeline on the website AND in all the apps.
So, for example, you could log in through your server's website, follow the tags you want, and then go back to using your favourite app.
If you want to follow more tags, you can currently only do that through a website or the third party Android app Fedilab.

@feditips Unless I'm mistaken, it's not possible yet to view all the hashtags you've followed in one interface so that you could say...unfollow several unwanted hashtags at once.
So be choosey when adding them. Otherwise you'll probably overwhelm your timeline.
API endpoints for better managing these hashtag follows have appeared recently, so it hopefully won't be long until the UI frontends catch up.
