I think Uma Musume is so successful in part because it is a pre-Genshin gacha. The Genshit gacha system fucking ruined it for everyone. Whereas they used to be made enjoyable even for F2P players.

Goalkeeper
No Genshin is the first gacha to barely give any incentive to anyone that isn't a whale and the way the gacha is split between characters and character specific weapons is predatory as fuck and has been adopted by most modern gacha's.

Imagine that instead of casually enjoying a mobile game that has a lot of side content (the "concerts", character stories, even the mid-gameplay events) as a whole and embracing the fact that you're not going to win all the time, you're instead skipping all the non-gameplay elements such as music, character events (see image); you're in essence playing it exclusively to win and to see your numbers grow faster than the other spending players' scores - which is all made worse by the fact that there's off-game media (guides from video essayists - piss be upon them) as well as hugbox communities (retards off in a discord server telling everyone that "if you didn't land a 0.03% roll then it's literally fucking over and you should stop playing") specifically spreading this mindset.
There's spending money on tangible things (merchandise, Daiwa Scarlet wrap for your sports car or an outfit for women to cosplay as) but that isn't even a fraction as bad as burning a fortune just to... win at mobile video games.
