   @yogthos Yes. Exactly. It's 50 years since the practice of sorting garbage for recycling became common, and for some reason that's beyond human comprehension, recycling is not yet a public utility like water and sewerage.
   When told that X packaging material "cannot" be recycled, the average punter believes it (!!!) when what it really means is "We don't want to spend the capital for the equipment that could recycle it" or some other operational reason that could be easily overcome if the recycling service was state owned.
   Some well-meaning people even *post* recyclables like plastic bottle tops to destinations many hundreds of kms away. Yes, really! The manufacturers get free materials, with the freight paid for by the donors. Is "suckers" too harsh a word? .
   Demand that your government makes sorting and recycling of "all" waste a state- owned public utility.

     @anne_twain @yogthos Most plastics cannot in fact be recycled more than a handful of times - even if all the effort is taken to sort it into all the different kinds of plastic, it becomes uselessly weak after just a few cycles (just like how paper can only be recycled a few times before the fibres become to short to give enough strength - but you can just use paper as mulch or burn it after all).
     
     Recycling is simply a ploy to sell more plastic - plastic should be sparingly used when other materials won't do, in things that are designed to last - it should not be wastefully used on utter garbage like a yogurt label, considering that there are many ways to label that doesn't release microplastics.
     
     As for plastic that has reached the end of its life - it should be burned in furnace hot enough to completely combust it - anything else just causes microplastics to go everywhere.

     A Marxist friend once told me this when I asked about his views on anarchism.
     "I think anarchism can never defeat fascism because individual efforts can never solve the problems of a system. It needs collective effort from a community."
