> Google has released Android 16 to AOSP, but this year’s release is different in a significant way: none of the usual source code for Pixel phones has been made available. This impacts not only CalyxOS, but the entire custom Android ecosystem.

@usul the annoying part is that I specifically purchased a Pixel phone to experiment with CalyxOS as it was projected to be supported the longest in years.
And now this happened lol
good thing it is not my primary phone I guess -

@xuxxux @jesterchen it's such a downgrade, I don't recommend it.
text rendering is awful
scrolling is awful
keyboard is awful
entire layout is stupid
I don't know why anyone believes Android is like state of the art smartphone design -

@jesterchen @feld that was also my concern. I just ordered a Pixel 9a to move from Apple to Graphene

@feld There goes my plan to buy a second-hand Pixel and throw Calyx on it to get a way from cheap Chinesium phones. Google always finds a way to disappoint. feld likes this. -

@phnt @feld Apparently it's because they fear the DOJ will force them to relinquish both the AOSP and Chrome (That's what the guys at GrapheneOS are saying, check their profile on the fediverse), and thus they are starting to wall garden the Pixels for when competition will have full access to the AOSP
Anyway, the guys at the GrapheneOS project say they already have a prototype working in the emulatorfeld likes this.
