Hello #crochet friends, any idea what weight/type of a wool a US pattern maker means by worsted weight? And what size needles would work best?

@llorenzin thank you so much! (I am still a beginner so a pattern which says 'needle size doesn't matter ' is not helpful)

@kpfssport here's a really handy chart I use for conversions like that!
https://www.laughinghens.com/yarn-conversion-chart
Looks like worsted (US) is equivalent to Aran (UK).And here's my go-to for figuring out hook sizing:

FWIW, this is highly variable by person. I tend to keep fairly tight tension so I usually end up on the larger end of the size range to get my gauge swatches right.. -

@yirggzmb thank you, as a beginner, patterns that don't give me needle sizes are confusing.

@kpfssport Worsted weight is a little thicker than a UK 8ply, I think. It's the sort of thing I'd use with a 3.5mm to 5.5mm type needle, depending on how firm or loose I want the fabric

@kpfssport I would also say that! This is the type of yarn I would consider (in Brasil) https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&sca_esv=ea7b27f3c7f5bbf6&sxsrf=AE3TifMPr-WuHnle3tHzU6gMzkGNiEuufg:1749584694634&q=fio+barroco&source=lnms&fbs=AIIjpHxU7SXXniUZfeShr2fp4giZjSkgYzz5-5RrRWAIniWd7tzPwkE1KJWcRvaH01D-XIX002E0qNXsgfZ6fffiMQMiq91rp2ynPWNXESVNGeqDBrFwOuh5X4C6ThHuI0H_ye_UUury4fJAoPySxhtjs5Ia4zq-k_OvYkgKc39Ea7yfbHt2cvlbfYiXmknSnwGqa1Nq7M7_IOjPnAiEcAgnrGo-h_VwjA&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiRpenxzueNAxUpq5UCHTLxFToQ0pQJegQIDRAB&biw=1684&bih=996&dpr=2
