     "What Guardsmen *mostly* do is respond to natural disasters. The units likely to be called up now, for example, helped with LA fires.

     And they are of these communities.

     That is, of course, if what Trump is doing is federalizing CA Guardsmen. He could also fly in some Texans or something.

     "DHS HSI were on the radio two hours ago begging other agencies for water.

     'We're out of water and it's very hot out here' - they were also asking for an escort and local cops did not provide it.

     It took two hours for additional DHS tactical teams to arrive from elsewhere."

     But in 2020, Cal Guard was assisted by many thousands of LAPD, LASD, and CHP.

     "Well, it looks like I was wrong. Trump has started the process of calling up 2,000 Cal National Guard troops over the objections of the Governor.

     But unlike 2020, there is no citywide curfew or emergency order. 2,000 soldiers are not nearly enough to lock the city down. Should be interesting."

     "the white house thinks brute force is, no pun intended, a trump card. they don’t anticipate pushback and they don’t know how to handle it with anything other than escalation. the issue is that each escalation is itself a gamble. if protesters refuse to back down, you’ve lost face. if your putative allies — local cops — decide that the unrest just isn’t worth it, you’ve lost face. if your goons are impotent in the face of the crowds, you’ve lost face."

     "The President can federalize the National Guard under Title 10 of the U.S. Code, which removes them from the governor's control and places them under federal command. In this case, the governor's approval is not required.

     We will now find out what Governor Newsom is made of."

     "He's not stating the technicalities here. But what he appears to be saying is that the President is nationalizing the CA state national guard. The President *does* have the authority to do that. This is why I mentioned a few times earlier in the spring that govs need to have a serious [??] with the adjutant generals of their state national guards."
