LA is about to become a war zone as trump finds his excuse to deploy soldiers in California.
He wants to bring CA to its knees. First the move to starve CA out of federal funds and now this.

1. Tweet form Governor Gavin Newsom @CAgovernor The federal government is moving to take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers. That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions. LA authorities are able to access law enforcement assistance at a moment’s notice. We are in close coordination with the city and county, and there is currently no unmet need. The Guard has been admirably serving LA throughout recovery. This is the wrong mission and will erode public trust.

Screencap of WH memo - Numerous incidents of violence and disorder have recently occurred and threaten to continue in response to the enforcement of Federal law by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other United States Government personnel who are performing Federal functions and supporting the faithful execution of Federal immigration laws. In addition, violent protests threaten the security of and significant damage to Federal immigration detention facilities and other Federal property. To the extent that protests or acts of violence directly inhibit the execution of the laws, they constitute a form of rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States. In light of these incidents and credible threats of continued violence, by the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby call into Federal service members and units of the National Guard under 10 U.S.C. 12406 to temporarily protect ICE and other United States Government personnel who are performing Federal functions, including the enforcement of Federal law, and to protect Federal property, at locations where protests against these functions are occurring or are likely to occur based on current threat assessments and planned operations. Further, I direct and delegate actions as necessary for the Secretary of Defense to coordinate with the Governors of the States and the National Guard ... DONALD J. TRUMP

  Joyce Alene points out that the use of Title 10 "is almost certainly a conflict with the Posse Comitatus Act, which prohibits the use of the military for domestic law enforcement, including the National Guard if they are federalized."

Is it a dystopian future characterized by environmental degradation, apocalyptic climate disasters, staggering inequality and segregation, mass homelessness, blatant corruption, and pervasive alienation? Or is it a future in which America becomes a true multiracial social democracy? It is the latter future — partially instantiated in its pluralist culture, its world-class public institutions of higher education, its tradition of labor activism, and the complementary campaigns to overhaul its transportation network and end its housing crisis — that threatens Trump’s fascist movement. I suspect this is why he seems so fixated on making an example out of Los Angeles in particular and California in general. And he is making an example, although perhaps not the example he intended to make. In deploying 2,000 National Guard troops to disperse a peaceful protest —a protest, it should be added, against his sadistic deportation campaign — he provided the most striking dramatization yet of his regime’s true character. And the protestors, in turn, have acted out a dramatization of the American character — maybe not the character of America as it is, but as it has long promised to become. ...

  1. 3 tweets by Brian Schatz Brian Schatz @brianschatz This is not a fucking insurrection and we don’t need the military to be mobilized to as if there is a foreign army marching into an American city. Nobody should pretend they can’t tell the difference between a volatile situation regularly and an invasion. There is literally no reason to have active duty Marines respond to a street protest. Whether or not this takes a terrible turn depends partly on the conduct and the discipline of law enforcement, of community members being peaceful, of media members speaking truth to power, and all of us agreeing that the use of the military for this purpose is the stuff of dictatorships across the planet and throughout history. Don’t kid yourself they know they are absolutely getting cooked politically w their terrible bill and rising prices, and they want to create a violent spectacle to feed their content machine. It’s time for the mainstream media to describe this authoritarian madness accurately.
