    I cannot overstate how much I hate the short character limits on most instances here. It does not make people post short, concise messages (as if brevity is even a thing I’d want to optimise for) it makes people post essays as sequences of 47 toots. Which then all appear in my timeline. In reverse order.

      @david_chisnall for.this character limit issue alone we are also considering moving instances. its a weird artifact ... nobody is forced to follow profiles that post longer things, and also the fediverse user interface can hide it behind a "show more" button. there is no real problem today that warrants a 500 char limits (and don't get us started on blue sky's limit of.300 chars)

      @david_chisnall it would be a little more tolerable if everyone enforced replies as "unlisted" so the timeline is a list of *topics* from which you can choose to enter and engage and not just a firehose of nonsense
