Dear Fediverse users
There is no official "netiquette" for our federated network, everyone can behave as they want at risk of being deferated by other instances (or banned from your own instances if you behave against its rules).
However, over the years some common ground emerged into this:
- get a profile picture, not necessarily your portrait
- write a biography because nobody want to meet empty people
- engage into content and enjoy discussion
- don't overload your messages with hash tags, this looks more propaganda than actual interesting content
Don't forget you have an ignore button at hand, see this nice comic https://xkcd.com/386/
In your Mastodon account, you can also set a list of words that you don't want to appear and it can expire after some time, so if you don't care about a trendy topic everyone is talking about, it's super useful.
This is my opinion, feel free to disagree :flan_thumbs:
I made a lot of real life friends through Mastodon, while I wasn't very fan of social network. I had/have a lot of interesting discussions about topics I care about with smart people, Mastodon is awesome :flan_cheer: And we have flan emojis :flan_hacker: :flan_le_french:
