It's #ThursdayFiveList time, and for Pride month this week's theme is #HighCamp -
I started out wondering how I could possibly do my own theme justice, and ended up unable to include everything I wanted to.
I had to park an entire digression on the inherent campness of black metal and its imagery for future use, as well as a sidebar about the inherent queer-coding that comes positioning oneself in opposition to mainstream society.
But what's to follow will, I hope, suffice.
Army of Lovers - Crucified

My followers might be more likely to recognise this track from Ghost's cover, but I really need you to understand how extremely queer the original is.
Ghost - It's a Sin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1lV4THTvFM
On which note, Ghost makes such a habit of covering and writing tracks with queer allusions that I'm at this point headcanoning all the Papas as cis pansexuals (as in the characters - Tobias Forge's sexuality is his own business). Moreover, stadium rock is inherently camp and queer as a genre and I will die on this hill. Anyway, this is also how I get the Pet Shop Boys into this list.
Rozz Williams - Deathwish (Live at Arapaho, Paris 1994)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8iMqRJWssU&t=1549s
I can't adequately describe the place Rozz Williams' work and life holds among my personal influences, for all its wanton expressions of perversion, gore, and heroin-saturated tragedy, but if you're looking for a quintessentially punk take on camp, this is a stellar example.
Here's a life performance you might not have previously seen.
Hazbin Hotel // Angel Dust - Poison
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ieMJR3hojg
Melodrama and tragedy, implicit or explicit, are critical to much of camp as an expression - we like a little suffering here, and, as an artform of the oppressed, you'll find some of that underlying most camp. It's present in spades in this track from Vivienne Medrano's delightfully, aggressively queer animated musical series Hazbin Hotel, the series that made me actually yell "fuck yeah, lesbian† Disney Princess of of Hell" at the screen during the first episode I saw. This is the newest song in this selection, and a solid exemplar for modern camp. The track's set early in Angel Dust's plotline, so CW sex work, addiction, drug use, bondage, noncon everything
†Charlie Morningstar is actually canonically bisexual
Queen - I Want It All

This song constitutes my fully reasonable demand for the revolution.
On consideration, I'm not detailing the contextual tragedy for this one. You know where to find it.
