#AskFedi mostly for my interest, can anyone send me a *raw* MPEG2 TS file from an ATSC(3?) capture?

If this is from a HDHomeRun it must be done from the command line with all filters off.

I am particularly interested in subtitles and closed captioning

@voltagex ATSC 3 does not use TS as the transport format. ATSC 1 does, and I could get you some capttures of that if you want. About how long captures do you need?

@voltagex ATSC 3.0 is IP-based, doing some OTT-like shenanigans. There are reasons for it being so slowly adopted. Not entirely unlike MSYNC and other stuff.

Here is an ATSC 1 off-air recording with both CEA-608 and CEA-708 captions, taken just now: https://e.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZzoetZdTW44cf2pDSeaqyODEtrjLplsrDX

@nafmo huh! What is the transport format for 3? 30 seconds or so should do it, I am interested in how closed captions are encoded and in differences from the TS captured from DVB-T in Australia (which uses teletext subtitles)

@voltagex If you are doing DVB subtitles through ffmpeg, you might find this little code snippet I wrote interesting:

(it lacks a check for out-of-bounds coordinates, though)

@voltagex It is an off-air recording, so subject to whatever copyright the original broadcaster has put it under. Other than that, it is not in any way secret.

I am going to remove the file from my network share, though, so you will need to point to a locally hosted copy.

@nafmo are you OK if part of this clip ends up in a blog post?
