Stories like this show there’s a deeper underlying problem: lawmakers treat science and scientists as just another constituency to be bargained and compromised with. They seem to have no understanding that science represents reality, which cannot be bargained or compromised with. As the biosphere our lives depend on reels from the effects of the climate crisis, they keep on playing political games.
