Minecraft video essay nostalgia gaslighters are very bizarre in the sense that you don't see such people when it comes to other long running franchises that have declined. There is nobody out there making video essays defending modern Spongebob Squarepants and saying that liking old Spongebob is just nostalgia. Everyone knows that modern Spongebob sucks and old Spongebob is better, nobody disputes this. There seems to be this idea that enjoying old Minecraft is heckin chud-coded that does not exist in other media situations.
- Johnny Peligro repeated this.

@branman65 New Minecraft literally made the game politically left wing by adding in the “blm” and “be antiracist” title screen text, and notch being openly racist and rw made old Minecraft rw coded, and people responded accordingly. if stephen hillenburg had lived and was a Trump supporter and Nick added openly trans characters and talked about progressive politics in new SpongeBob episodes you’d see the same dynamic there.

@branman65 aside from that, there was a similar level of gaslighting I remember over at Bulbagarden/Serebii/similar places.
There's a reason why /vp/ and similar have people willing to shit on Nintendo, because all the old communities were sucking their cock

@branman65 Pokemon actually had this same problem before video essays were a thing, just look at all the Nintendo shills spouting phrases like "genwunner" which might have described that "fat neckbeard" who talks about how he played "tha original back in tha day" except it ends up as a blanket term for anyone who isn't lining up to suck Nintendo/Game Freak's cock.
Except in this case it was less political loyalty and more brand loyalty.
