   Society moves on a pendulum. I think part of this may even be an emergent property of civilization/moral evolution to level out the population. I do think part of the population collapse narrative is a form of moral panic. That being said, it will be pretty bad for the current generations when we get old and there are no kids to care for us. That will kinda suck, but I also think it's just a reality we'll have to deal with. You can't have infinite growth. Society + chemicals + modern medicine is certainly destroying fertility and it will set the world back a billion at least, before it picks back up.
