Protip for anyone trying to find moderators for a system that needs moderation:

"I want to be a mod!" is a HUGE RED FLAG.

If someone wants to be a mod, the *presumption* should be that they have abusive motives. You then conduct a thorough investigation of their past involvement in projects and on public social media, and only accept them if you're satisfied that this is not the case.

@adingbatponder One way is by reaching out to members of your community with a history of constructive engagement in moderation (good-faith reporting, positive contribution to past discussions on topic).

But regardless of how you first find candidates, vet them, and for ones that presented red flags ("pick me as a mod!!"), being extra careful in that vetting.
