寮 (ryo@social.076.ne.jp)'s status on Tuesday, 15-Nov-2022 22:45:33 JST 寮 More and more Twitter users moving into the Fediverse taking all their bad habits like real photo's as their avatards (misspelling on purpose), real names as their display names, and fashtag abuse, it seems like the days of Fedi being more in line with Web 1.0-style communities is about to end.
So in the wake of this and making sure at least the good side of Fedi holds on to the old culture, I'll be discussing with loli frog to maybe beef up some rules to gatekeep as many bad actors out of possible.
I believe the old Fedi culture needs to remain alive to avoid a repeat of what happened to the web when the normies started coming online.
Of course each instance needs to decide for themselves as to whether they want to allow the influx of Shitter normies to turn their Fedi instance into yet another Big Tech-like police state or hold on to the classic Fedi culture (classic web culture) by properly gatekeeping their instances.
I would wish we didn't have to do it, but it increasingly starts to seem like we just have no other choice.
And don't worry, none of the rules I have in mind should affect anyone who's already on this instance.
We'll still allow anarcho-free speech to be heard, we'll continue to have a hands-off approach towards user generated content, we'll continue to make it each user's own responsibility to block and/or mute people they don't like instead of reporting, of course we'll still allow the loli's and shota's to play around freely, and so on.
The gatekeeping is solely meant to preserve the culture we have right now.- Udon likes this.

寮 (ryo@social.076.ne.jp)'s status on Tuesday, 15-Nov-2022 23:22:22 JST 寮 Update: so far loli frog turned down this idea.
She said that there's no need to add rules, adding rules is exactly what will invite bad actors in and force good people out, and get people to provoke breaking the rules.
According to her, the lack of rules IS the proper way of gatekeeping, because all the bad actors wouldn't want to join an instance without proper rules as they'll consider it to be "unsafe".
So in a way we're already gatekeeping the bad actors out.
And looking at this instance while comparing to many others out there, I think she's right.
The reason why we had no such problems here so far is exactly because we already are an "unsafe" environment from the get go. -

Mircea Kitsune (mirceakitsune@baraag.net)'s status on Tuesday, 15-Nov-2022 23:39:43 JST Mircea Kitsune @ryo Wish more platforms including the commercial ones thought that way: By far the main reason the mainstream internet has become garbage is people thinking anything that looks a little bad must be stopped and the only way to stop something is via rules. The #fediverse is designed so that things work themselves out as everyone finds the right place for them.
