Democrats don't try to win over Republican voters because they think it's good politics. They just like and agree with Republicans more than the rest of us.

Ever since they got sucker-punched by Reagan, Democrats have been chasing white conservative validation, to the point where most Democrats are just Republicans from 20 years ago.

It's basically impossible for Democrats to make any meaningful headway with Trump and Republican voters.
On the other hand, it's extremely doable for Democrats to win back voters by tackling economic problems -- remember that 60% of Americans can't afford a minimal quality of life -- and by championing issues like abortion rights. There is considerable overlap between these groups, too!
Guess where Democrats put all their energy, though.
