   You know what? As a society, I don't think we have a data privacy problem, actually.

   What we truly have is a
   consent-respecting problem.

   If, as a society and as individuals, we truly respected people's informed and freely given consent, we would not have problems with data privacy at all.

   If we culturally improve our consent-respecting practices, we will inevitably understand better how to improve our privacy-respecting practices.

   Ask first.
   Give options.
   Respect people's choices.
   Never share without prior permission.

     I don't understand why this isn't inverted. Why isn't there a browser setting that I can use to decide my level of consent that every website has to obey? Why do the predators get to take the lead and I have to deal with an enormous amount of bullshit in order to deflect them?

     Women have been asking this question for a long, long time. There may be a connection here.

     @Em0nM4stodon It makes me so uncomfortable knowing that there are family members in particular who have lots of info about me and make exactly zero effort to protect my info from their Meta apps and etc. Perhaps former friends too. And there is not one single thing I can do about it. I've talked to them and talked to them, but they just don't listen.
