   In my speechwriting years, a big part of the gig was fact-checking. My client was used to being taken at his word, and the people he employed full-time rarely thought to question the things he put in first drafts

   I wasn't paid to fact-check but I did it reflexively, the same way I'd google a cleverly-written phrase or analogy to be sure I wasn't accidentally 'plagiarizing' via independent invention

   It's heartbreaking knowing that the tools that spared me so much embarrassment are now useless

     google has reached peak enshittification. (Actually, I shouldn't say that. I have complete faith that they will find a way to make it worse)

     Finding everything is harder. What one does find, one can no longer trust. AI has polluted the information stream so much already that any efforts made to avoid unintended plagiarism are effectively useless

     I can't imagine how much more challenging my job would be in 2025 than it was when I quit in 2017. I'd be on eggshells all the time
