If you think slop bug reports are bad now, just wait until this moves from public preview into full release https://github.blog/changelog/2025-05-19-creating-issues-with-copilot-on-github-com-is-in-public-preview/

Major projects are going to need to completely move their issue tracking off of Github or up there moderation as at least at this stage there doesn't appear to be a block the use of this feature https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/159749

@fireborn There was a case a few months back where some major Youtube channel was showing how Github worked and used I think it was the Node repo in there example so that repo got flooded with PRs, I could easily see the same happen again let alone someone doing so to ruin a project.

@BrodieOnLinux This honestly makes me worry for the future of software development, not because programmers will lose their jobs -- that isn't happening -- but these AI generated bug reports are going to make actual reports and actual issues take longer to fix. Triage is already a nightmare. A bad actor could weaponise this to keep a security hole open for longer by just flooding slop reports.

@BrodieOnLinux corporations are so desperate to prove that it was definitely wise and correct to forget their eco-sustainability targets and light money on fire to train and host these models

I'm not saying these have no purpose or utility, but I doubt any of what we've "gained" so far was worth the billions of dollars and climate harms

Imagine being a billionaire and deciding that burning money like this was preferable to feeding the poor or curing the sick
