   Fwiw I am working on an open baseband chip. It is illegal to use in regular networks yes, but if that gets fixed we will now have an open chip. Afaik it might be legal if you use it on your own premises (at home or if the organizers of a conference allow it - I might ask C3 folks)

   Like the prototype is gonna consist of an SDR, which is quite expensive (think 800€ per baseband), but after I get the prototypes down I should be able to bring the cost down 1-2 orders of magnitude at least, by making my own ICs.

     Am glad at least some folks are interested in it !

     I am gonna need a lot of prototyping for the main CPU, since I am doing RISC-V. Unsure if I can get away with using off-the-shelf displays, RAM, storage, cameras, and batteries, since displays and cameras are a mostly separate but related manufacturing tech, and competent storage + RAM is more difficult than a competent CPU. And batteries are a whole other beast entirely. Those I pray I can get away with using off-the-shelf since not like I can ever let myself ship some exploding thing (I am not Samsung or Xiaomi)
