Easy to say when InDesign isnʼt helping you make a living, though I did use the Gimp for a while.
And yet to find word processing or email programs on any platform that outperform WordPerfect and Eudora or have UIs as configurable.
We can all get on our high horse about something, but usually I let people get on with things their way. Theyʼll do the best they can.

  For the record: I've been using Linux continuously for 21 years, on laptops, desktops and servers. In the interim, I completed a PhD in developmental biology (–2005), a postdoc in fly neuroanatomy (2005-2008), and run a neuroscience lab across 4 institutions in 3 countries (2008-to date). With Linux, I wrote many manuscripts, grants, and reports; reviewed manuscripts and grants, analysed lots of image volumes (light- and electron-microscopy), and wrote lots of software. Not once I missed any of the two main proprietary operating systems. Partly I've been aided by web browsers taking up lots of the tasks that used to be desktop applications, but there are many outstanding free open source software applications out there, for each and every task. There is no need whatsoever for running MacOS or MS Windows in your laptop. Any task you may need to do in the modern work office you can do with free open source software on a free open source operating system. Using proprietary software is a choice. #FOSS #linux #OpenSource
