Dunno if it's me that i'm really bad but...
I've recently started playing a pokemon romhack and every single gym leader and rival encounter is insanely hard. All opponents are faster than me, deal insane amounts of damage and always make my pokemon flinch when using astonish or bite

What romhack?

Alright, i finally managed to win. I got lucky on the first turn and my carkoal didn't flinched like a bitch and i could upgrade my speed. After that i anhialated his Houndoom and Shiftry. After that, all went well.
Damn, people that make romhacks are fucking masochists

I'd go in hard on fighting type sweepers for that, maybe some bug/fairy is they don't suck too much. Flying should be easy with a decent electric type in your team, and they're usually naturally pretty fast as a bonus.
Yep, it gets retarded fast with the competitive tier play shit. I draw the line at shiny collecting and breeding in general, EV's ok once you know where you can reliably grind for them, but I'll still only do speed and either attack or special attack depending which is higher.

Seems fairly well balanced, but is it built specifically for the boss' team and their movesets? Balanced is great for most of the game but some of those romhack bosses are retardedly hard by comparison because the vanilla games actively nerfs them.
There's an EV cap, so just try to hit those then try again and go for the 10 level advantage if it fails?

tbh i'm well kited out for the boss since he uses dark types but his pokemon are dark/fire, dark/plant, dark/water and dark/flying, so my team typewise is effective. But not if i can't attack before he decimates my guys.
tbh i think the whole EV minmax is horrifically retarded and sucks out all the fun out of the game. But what do i know since i'm not that autistic

I don't know the vanilla pokemon past gen wun tbh, but you sound confident so I'll assume you've got it covered and just need to grind. Speed training should help a lot with that stunlock bs.

Aight, i'll give you the types: Water, grass, rock/fire, flying/steel, psychic/fighting, ghost.
Well, if i am to grind some rats it will take a while for me to level up since i spent most time crushing Scythers and Pinsirs for big xp

Yeah, i have things fairly balanced out. Feraligatr, Gogoat, Gallade (just evolved, needs good moves), Misdreavus (i can evolve but i want it to get Shadow Ball for free), Corviknight and Carkol (might switch him later for a steel type).
For me the real ballbuster is the fact that opponents ALWAYS move first and bite makes me flinch 8 out of 10 times. Fucking insane

Yeah, you don't have to remind me of Clover's difficulty. I just ditched it since i couldn't get over the prof at the end.
But here i'm stuck at my rival who has fully evolved pokemon, fast and with strong moves that vaporize mine. They are all around level 25 and i grinded mine up to 30 in hopes of getting new and strong moves, but even with the level advantage it's horrifically difficult

I beat an earlier build of it, 2020 update keeps wearing me out with the grind. Still need to go back to it and finish that shit up.
Try another 5 levels (whilst getting speed/attack or special attack EV preferably) if you're headbutting a wall against the RNG. Type advantages planned out for your whole team right?

A lot of those romhacks are scaled up to adult target audiences, Clover gets testicle crushingly hard by the end lol. You'll probably need to grind EV or at least think about movesets/typing. If you need more speed EV, it's usually the rat/pigeon types near the start IIRC.
