@ricmac In my opinion you need alt text for images that are integral to the content of the website, and do not need it for presentational and decorative images because it needlessy wastes time of screen reader users. Media that people upload on Mastodon is by definition always content, but on different websites you might have e.g. stock images that don't mean anything at all.
