almost accidentally bought Lenovo X13 with bios password lock before I learned one needs an expensive firmware flasher and knowledge how to remove that. someone on fedi probably can do it :LappPeek: -

@solidsanek it's through reseller, so I don't think they have it Hollow Cанëк likes this. -

@kaia Mine was also through a reseller, in fact. They actually contacted the original owner for me, since this person was a regular and would often repair and sell laptops
But I got lucky in that situation, I'd have asked for a refund otherwisekaia likes this. -

@romin @kaia Nope. You could short out the BIOS security chip to bypass it on older Lenovos for what it's worth. kaia likes this. -

@kaia Last I heard, you need to clamp an EEPROM interface to the flash chip, read it, find and blank the password area, flash it back. There is really no fool-safe way for this, since it's more like blindly cracking it. A lot of these are also dumped (or stolen) office inventory. kaia likes this. -

@solidsanek @kaia Without the financial incentive for the reseller you'd have probably been boned indeed.

@kaia Assuming there's no backup password for this device, your best bet might be to find a shop that already has that device. I saw this place come up in Reddit threads: https://www.allservice.ro
That's a Romanian place, though. Maybe check with local mobile repair shops. They often have some surprising hardware.

@kaia In most cases you just need to create a short.
