Usually, I'd say in 99% of my posts Mastodon's 500 char limit doesn't bug me at all. That's why I never increased it which is of course possible but with an incomprehensible effort.
Where the limit really bugs me often is with private mentions. I often happen to wish I'd actually communicate with the person via Email, Signal, XMPP, Matrix or whatever just not over this self-limited thing.
