Linux posters need to accept the fact that unless you sell laptops preloaded with Linux, no one will give a shit.

And I mean ‘laptops’ as in the ones in Best Buy/Walmart and shit, not some EU website that sells recycled Thinkpad X220 with Arch installed

@swaggboi Its not too bad. I have Fedora 42 on it and it runs perfectly. I upgraded the RAM to 32GB (dual RAM slots is nice) and SSD to a 1TB one.

The build quality feels more like a Dell Latitude than a Thinkpad IMO.

@gray Also how’s the L14? I had I think an L13 (p sure it was a 13” not a 14”) years ago but I couldn’t get my DE to work with the hi-DPI screen it had so I gave it to someone I’m not even friends with anymore… I should’ve repossessed that thing damnit

@swaggboi i don't think it was offered when I got my L14 last year. It would have been nice to save $140.

@gray The XPS with Ubuntu is decent, last I checked it was fairly obvious to get on their website. I doubt they’ll be in any brick and mortar but it’s some progress?

Then I read that there were preloaded Thinkpads with some distro (can’t remember but I feel like it was Fedora?) and I absolutely could not find them on Lenovo’s site.

HP lets you buy a laptop with a FreeDOS disk which is not at all what I mean but I thought it was a funny loophole to get out of the Windows license lol.

@swaggboi Lenovo is BTO only I think. Looks like Ubuntu as well. https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/results/?visibleDatas=699%3ALinux

@swaggboi Dell still sells laptops with Ubuntu on them but you really have to search for them.

@swaggboi i mean, yeah. that's why you can't assume linux will work fine on a laptop when you install it (not a single laptop works the same way driver/hw wise compared to windows)
