haha, stores are stopping self-checkout due to theft. They will also stop allowing people to bring their own bags for this reason as well.

@sickburnbro love to see it. Honestly, here, people stopped using them, they are usually empty, people preferring the human alternative.

@Ghislaine @professionalbigot69 there are places where it could make sense, maybe - but what specifically has happened is all these stores have just ended up having no staff at all, so if you need help finding something or something in the app says it is in stock, but it's not on the shelf, or .. it's locked up ...

@professionalbigot69 @sickburnbro fuck self checkout. it was always intended to make us do the cashiers job so they could fire cashiers. not like we ever saw any of those cost savings in reduced prices.

@professionalbigot69 @Ghislaine now you just have self-checkout machines that say you're trying to steal if you touch the wrong part of the machine.

@professionalbigot69 @Ghislaine the situation that was promised never appeared, it was - as others said - just a way for stores to slash staffing and make their service worse, so in response people just said "if it sucks this much, I'll just order online"

@professionalbigot69 @sickburnbro I usually do really big grocery hauls and I’m a lot slower than having a dedicated cashier and bagger (which is how it should be). for like under 5 items it can be faster to use self checkout

@Ghislaine @professionalbigot69 yeah, and items where they are easy to scan, a lot of grocery items either have the PLUs or the barcode is wrinkled like on a loaf of bread.
